Cohesion Activity

To get a high band score in IELTS Writing and IELTS Speaking, it’s important to use cohesive devices appropriately and correctly. In this activity, you need to work out the function of each cohesive device. Is it used to:

  • add information (“addition”)
  • show similarity between two ideas (“similarity”)
  • to make a conclusion (“conclusion”)

Drag each word or phrase into the correct column, then click / tap the “check” button. You may need to attempt this activity a few times to get it right as some words / phrases are difficult. Good luck!

Now do this activity. Using the words from the previous activity, fill the blanks. Some sentences have more than one possible answer. Good luck!
